Learn how to teach Barre with Maria Munkowits and Bella Wilson in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland)!

This training has been developed to equip you with the tools and knowledge to guide you towards a career in the fitness industry.

Run over 3 weekends at Unity Studios in Mt Eden, you will learn to effectively teach this targeted and popular full-body workout.

Barre is an intelligent workout class, integrating key elements of pilates, ballet, yoga and interval training to work and challenge every major muscle group of the body, developing strength, flexibility and confidence.

Throughout this course, you will participate in advanced training classes taught by Bella and Maria to strengthen your own practice. These will be followed by a series of workshops with a focus on practical learning. Key topics covered will include anatomy, how to sequence your classes, cueing, musicality, hands-on assists, pre and post-natal modifications, as well as provide opportunities to develop your own teaching practice.

After the training, there will be opportunities to assist, facilitate and teach community classes at Unity Studios, to kickstart your career as a barre instructor.

Our BarreForm teacher training takes place over 3 consecutive weekends at Unity Studios.

​Training hours are Saturdays 10am - 4pm & Sundays 10am - 3.30pm.

In addition to these hours, you will be expected to observe & participate in barre classes to deepen your learning.

You will also have the opportunity to co-teach a barre class alongside another trainee, then teach a second koha community class by yourself.

The final assessment is the submission of a 30-minute video of you teaching, along with a lesson plan. This will be due within 1 month of the taught course.

We are an accredited course with NZ REPs. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate and 20 CPD points.

Teacher Trainer

Bella Wilson

Bella is a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and barre instructor. She completed her professional dance training in contemporary dance at the New Zealand School of Dance (2013) and Unitec (2016), and is a co-director of Dance Plant Collective.

Bella is a passionate teacher and mentor, and has a diverse teaching practice spanning contemporary dance technique, ballet, dance conditioning, improvisation and choreographic practice within dance studios, pre-professional training programmes, high schools and tertiary dance institutions across Auckland and beyond.

Bella completed her barre teacher training with Barrefigure in 2018, and has been teaching barre ever since in studios across Auckland. Her classes are upbeat, challenging and technique-focused. She loves motivating others to reach their potential, and we can guarantee she will encourage you to do things you didn't know you were capable of, with lots of smiles and laughter along the way!

Maria Munkowits

Maria is a professional dancer who has worked consistently in the New Zealand creative sector and toured internationally with various dance companies. Since completing her Yoga Teacher Training, Maria has cultivated experience in a wide range of physical and wellness modalities. She trained under the Xtend Barre method in 2016 and has always been a passionate advocate for mindfulness both on and off the mat, expanding her repertoire further in Yoga, Barre and Pilates over the past 10 years. Maria has recently moved into the educational space to facilitate workshops and anatomy/alignment modules for various training programmes. Her Barre classes are articulate and challenging, with options to practise at your own level. Maria will support you to move your body with strength, grace and ease in a nurturing environment, integrating technique along with curated playlists to enhance and uplift your experience in the studio.
